Alternative Resolution Dispute Services

Parent Coordination vs. Facilitation Services

Parent coordination services are designed to guide and support parents in learning to effectively interact with each other and their children while co-parenting. Parenting coordination can involve providing resources, strategies, and education on topics such as parenting skills, positive forms of discipline, and child development. Parent facilitation aims to strengthen the parent-child relationship and promote positive outcomes for the child. Parent Coordination IS confidential. While your Parent Coordinator may help you and your ex to agree on the care of the child(ren), they are NOT the same as having a family counselor.
Vs.
Parent facilitation services are for parents experiencing extreme communication difficulties. It is a dispute-resolution approach designed to help high-conflict parents work together and make decisions regarding their children's upbringing. The goal is to reduce conflict and improve communication between parents, ultimately leading to a better co-parenting relationship for the benefit of the children involved. A Parent Facilitators' role is similar to that of a Parenting Coordinator, with one important exception, time spent with a Parent Facilitator is NOT confidential. A Parent Facilitator may be selected over a Parent Coordinator for their ability to report to the courts.

Parent Facilitation Services

Parenting Facilitation Services are for parents who have difficulty communicating with their ex-partners regarding their child(ren) as a result of a broken relationship. Research has indicated that "exposure to high levels of post-divorce interparental conflict is a well-documented risk factor for the development of psychopathology, and there is strong evidence of a subpopulation of families in which conflict persists for many years after divorce" (O'Hara et al., 2019). The side effects of divorce or a failed relationship can be anger and distrust, both of which can lead to hostile communication and consistent interparental conflict.  Working with a Parent Facilitator can help to minimize the child(ren)'s exposure to toxic and damaging parental conflict.

Parent Coordination Services

Parenting Coordination services are designed to help separated or divorced parents who are struggling to communicate effectively and make decisions regarding their children. A Parenting Coordinator works with both parents to promote cooperation and create a parenting plan that is in the best interest of the children. The goal is to help parents work together to resolve issues related to their children, such as visitation schedules, education, and medical care.

Mediation Services

Mediation services are a form of alternative dispute resolution where a neutral third party helps two or more parties resolve a conflict. Mediation can be used for a variety of disputes, including family, business, and legal issues.

Mediation services can benefit anyone who is involved in a dispute or conflict, whether it be in a personal or professional setting. Again mediation provides a neutral and confidential forum where individuals can work together with a mediator to find a mutually agreeable solution. This process is often less expensive and time-consuming than going to court. Additionally, mediation can help to improve communication and relationships between parties, which can have long-lasting benefits beyond the immediate conflict.

Arbitration Services

Arbitration services refer to the process of resolving disputes between two parties outside of court by using a neutral third party, known as an arbitrator, to make a decision. This process is often used as an alternative to litigation and can be binding or non-binding depending on the agreement of the parties involved.

Parties may select arbitration over mediation because arbitration provides a binding decision, while mediation is non-binding and relies on the parties to come to an agreement. Arbitration can be quicker and less expensive than going to court, but it also limits the parties' ability to appeal the decision. Mediation, on the other hand, can be a useful tool in preserving relationships and finding creative solutions. Ultimately, the decision of whether to use arbitration or mediation depends on the specific circumstances of the dispute.
